Invisalign Dos & Dont’s
Curious about Invisalign? Or already undergoing treatment? Whatever it is, our top team of dentists in Pontefract is ready to help. Today, we’ll be covering Invisalign’s do’s and don’ts to help our patients – and readers – get the best out of their treatment. Or, for those who are just testing the waters, you’ll get a solid overview of what’s involved and be able to make that final decision.
DO…
Let’s talk about a few ‘dos’ first. These are things our dentists would advise you to carry out in order to help your treatment go smoothly and develop the results you deserve.
1. Wear your aligners
It might seem silly, but it’s so important to mention. Because Invisalign braces are removable, it’s tempting to take them out more often than not – and this means you could be missing out on valuable treatment time. At the best, you’ll extend how long treatment takes. At worst, you could be looking at affecting your results. Most patients will need to wear their Invisalign braces for 20-22 hours every day.
2. Clean your aligners
Another no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people are lax about cleaning their Invisalign braces. It’s really important that you do, however, or you could end up exposing your teeth to unnecessary bacteria and food particles, leading to concerns like decay, and even extractions. Additionally you can read our blog on how to clean Invisalign Aligners.
3. Store your aligners
Take out your Invisalign braces when you eat or drink (except for water), and you’ll want to put them somewhere they’re safe and protected from loss or breakage. An Invisalign case is perfect – just make sure you don’t forget where you’ve put it! It’s also a great item to have if you travel a lot.
DON’T…
Now for a few ‘don’ts’, or things, you should avoid entirely. Remember – it’s all to help you get the best out of your treatment.
1. Skip dental check-ups
You still need to have regular dental checks to make sure your mouth, teeth and gums are healthy. It can also be a way to check your treatment is progressing properly. Our Pontefract dentists will give your teeth a superior clean at the same time.
2. Eat with aligners
Food and gum can cause discolouration, cracking, breaking and more – which can delay your treatment and damage your mouth. It’s always a good idea to remove your Invisalign braces when you want to eat a snack or meal.
