The Benefits Of Dental Implants
Losing a tooth can be a hard thing to deal with. You might feel self-conscious about your smile, or struggle to do some of the things you used to take for granted – like talking, chewing and eating. Well, here at Ropergate dental practice in Pontefract, we want to make a difference to the smiles – and lives – of our amazing patients. Here’s one way we can do just that: through the incredible power of dental implants.
What are dental implants?
Tooth implants are essentially permanent false teeth. Once in place, you won’t have to worry about them sliding around in your mouth or breaking. You won’t have to remember to put them in or take them out. They’re a strong and dependable solution to missing teeth and with the right care, they can last a lifetime.
Why should I have dental implants?
These clever tooth implants are:
- Strong: they won’t wiggle, slide or move about, whether you’re eating or chatting
- Realistic: made from ceramic, they look just like the real thing
- Discreet: colour-matched to your smile, they won’t look out of place
What’s more, replacing missing teeth can help prevent problems in the future, like gum recession and even bone loss (in the jaw).
Can people tell I have dental implants?
No, it’s highly unlikely they will. Although, if you’ve had several missing teeth replaced, you may find that the outside of your mouth looks less saggy, too, because teeth provide some structure to the jaw area of the face.
Will my tooth implants need replacing?
With proper care, no, they shouldn’t need replacing. However, all teeth are susceptible to chips, cracks and breakages, depending on how you care for them. If you need any advice about this, our Pontefract dentists would be happy to help.
Can you whiten dental implants?
Sadly not – but they can be colour-matched to your remaining teeth, which is why so many of our patients have teeth whitening before their tooth implants are placed.
How does the treatment work?
Your dental implants are made of a ceramic crown and metal, screw-like ‘root’. This root is gently inserted into a small hole in the gum. When it’s all healed, the crown is added. Dental implants are available as individual (single) teeth, bridges and dentures.
